Hey Guys,
I purchased some home walkies a while ago (Baofeng BF888S). We only go them so I could call inside while I was working outside or if I was up in the attic and needed my wife to grab me a tool. Basically just toying around the house and property. I recently got a pair of Baofeng UV-5R radios. I didn't, and still don't, know anything about what I bought (HAM radio vs "bubble pack" radios). I found a lot of info the past couple of days and literally just pulled these off my BF888s and loaded them on the UV-5R. Much to my surprise channels 1 & 2 worked, but 3 got all fuzzy. Luckily I only need channels 1 & 2 for home use. I did come across some info though, as a friendly word of caution. The HAM radios should not be used for FRS communications. Apparently it is an FCC violation, but I also found since they are usually not monitored being a family use device. Just throwing that out there. Here is what I pulled off my BF888s radio. I also included the links to the radios I have.

I hope this helps someone out there.

I can confirm that at least channel one works. I can't verify the others.

The latest "default" channels programmed into the BF8888 was provided by @crmckay. I have updated the gist with his contribution, and also into a CSV so anyone can import this using Chirp.

If all your radios (BF8888 or/and UV-5R) is programmed with the same channels, they should pick each other up.

Thank you all for participating in the comments.

I can verify that these work and they do in fact allow a Baofeng UV-5R talk to any BF-888(S) handset.

Anyone have channels for BF777s ?

Hi there you can also buy a frequency portable counter - scanner with a digital screen so whenever ypu press PTT button it shows you the frequency of each channel with CTCSS / DCS Decode so you can Programm or change through Chirp programm!!!

Is BFV8 same for this? Can anyone help me to connect my UV5R to a BFV8 Channel 16?

Alright, my team and I use these everyday at work. They're, ok if you ask my opinion. I have difficulties hearing sometimes. Well I was given a UNIDEN SX409-3CKEM when my 888S came up missing. My issue is, how can I hear my coworkers on their 888S's on my UNIDEN? Please help and excuses my lack of techno-wizardry skills.

I just got brand new BF-888S's and a brand new UV-9R plus and can confirm that these work in getting the BF-888S's to speak to the UV-9R plus. Thanks a lot for this :)

At least channel 16 data here works in UV-5R both tx/rx , so a big thank you. After setting frequency, I just had to set T-CTCS for ToneSql value, and left the rest settings as they are. Other channels yet to test.

Hi, everybody.
I'm a little late... (grin) but maybe this is useful for someone...
I just saved the preset frequencies of the Baofeng BF-888s, using CHIRP, then copied each channel, from 1 to 16, to the channels 101 to 116 in my UV-5R. It's working perfectly.

Let me start by saying, “Yes” I have read this and other posts. It is not my intent to violate the FCC’s laws/rules. But, being an analytical type of person, I need to know the “Why”.
I have a few Baofeng BF8888s. I used the latest version of CHIRP Next to pull the channel list off the 888s.

screenshot 138

I have a Baofeng GT-5TP. I learned you can program the GT-5TP using CHIRP by setting the type of radio to UV-82HP. I have been able to pull the programming table off and reload it. No problem

I loaded the 888s frequencies onto my GT-5TP. Again, I trying to figure out the “WHY”.
I can hear some of the channels on the GT-5TP when I transmit on my 888, but not all of them. WHY? Also, I can’t hear anything on my 888 if I transmit from the GT-5TP. It is as if it is not transmitting at all. When I push the PPT button I don’t get the orange transmitting light. Did I miss a configuration somewhere? Or is the GT-5TP built so that it cannot transmit on FRS/GMRA channels to be compliant with the FCC rules? Again, I do not intend to use the GT-5TP unlawfully. This is purely academic. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello there. After checking the GT-5TP specs it says "Frequency Range: VHF 144-148MHz (TX/RX); UHF: 420-450MHz(TX/RX)".
Could this be purely a hardware issue on the GT-5TP side of things? None of the 888s listed frequencies are within the 420-450 range.

I finally figured it out. The GT-5TP sold in the USA has a software block. The only way to use the above-listed frequencies is to jailbreak the phone back to default. So, in theory, if you revert to the original default you can transmit on the above-listed channels.

Here is an article about PMR 446 frequencies with a complete table of channels. In Portugal, like in other countries, is 446.00625–446.19375 MHz. Here you can check, if it's LPD and PMR are license-free your country
