for someone who loves technology loves
the digital age we're in but when it
comes to notes you still prefer a pen
and paper today's video might be for you
so today we're going to take a look at
two paper tablets that are meant to give
you a very paperlike experience when
writing notes the remarkable Pro and the
newly released Kindle scribe second
generation which one's better let's find
out more before we start briefly what an
e tablet or a paper tablet is and how it
compares differs from a traditional
tablet like an iPad well there's
actually a lot of difference tablets are
multi-function devices they use LCD or
LED screens there's a lot of glare if
you're trying to use it in bright sunny
outdoor situations visibility is not
going to be great there's going to be a
lot of Reflection from the sun because
they're like a mini computer essentially
there's a lot of processing happening
the battery life isn't great it's just a
couple of hours and because they do a
lot of things there's often a lot of
distractions whether it's from social
apps or email or whatnot paper tablets
on the other hand like the Kindle or the
remarkable are a completely different
thing first of all they don't use LCD or
LED screens they use e in or eaper
screens which are very different than
LCD screens these displays mimic the
look of real paper there's a lot of
advantages there they're much gentler on
the eyes there's no light that is
blowing in your eyes they provide
excellent visibility outdoors in bright
sunlight just like a regular paper does
they consum consum a lot less power and
therefore you've got a lot more battery
life out of them and they're distraction
free because all they do is let you
write notes so you're not going to get
any notifications any pop-ups any emails
any tweets any whatnot they literally
use ink charged ink particles below the
display that rise to the surface
whenever an electric field is applied
and this is essentially how you can
write and you see it looks very similar
to actual pen and paper and since they
use ink to actually create text and
images there's no backlight that's
glaring in your eyes and again this is
what makes them much gentler in the eyes
and much easier to use on bright sunny
days so now that we covered what an EET
is let's take a look at the two that we
have today remarkable Pro and the newly
released kle scribe second generation
now off the bat you see that there's a
major size difference the remarkable is
actually almost the same size as an A4
paper which makes it great to use
because it feels familiar it feels like
you're actually writing on paper the
Kindle scribe on the other hand is still
a Kindle so it's much smaller and
they're trying to create a cross device
between a Kindle e-reader and a paper
tablet for no taking and they arrived at
that particular size now another
difference you see is that there's a
one-sided thick bezel over here where
you would hold the device whereas with
the remarkable there's no bezel and the
bezel is actually quite thin the
remarkable is also thinner as a tablet
and it kind of has a more premium feel
it actually looks really really nice
very sleek and very very premium the
Kindle comparatively looks less premium
it's not a cheap looking device but next
to the remarkable I do think it looks
less premium but more important than how
they look how do they function and let's
see that together and before we do that
let me briefly show you the different
things you can do with the remarkable
so over here you've got a few different
pen options so you can use a bullo pen a
feliner a highlighter a
pencil a mechanical pencil calligraphy
pen a
marker a Shader and a paintbrush now I'm
going to briefly show you what these
look like when you're writing so this is
the pen and this is a pressure sensitive
stylus so if you apply light pressure
it's going to be very light and then if
you apply more pressure it's going to be
thicker but then if you use something
like a pencil for example it not only is
pressure sensitive so as I said if you
apply pressure versus if you don't but
also it detects the Tilt so if you are
tilting it like this it's going to be
shading versus like this so combination
of pressure and tilt sensitivity means
you can do a lot of nice things with
this especially if you're into drawing
for example you're going to love this
the Tilt sensitivity also shines if
you're using a calligraphy pen because
as you can
see it detects the Tilt and it gives you
really nice calligraphy now one new
thing about the remarkable Pro is that
it now has a color display so you can
select a few different colors for not
taking or highlighting so this would be
the red color for example and you can
select the
cyan which is nice because the Kindle is
a monochrome display so there's no color
on the Kindle scribe now let me show you
the Kindle scribe and as you can see the
display is actually on this looks and
feels literally like paper and the first
time you see a digital display you're
going to think there's a paper stuck on
top of here printed with this photo but
it's not it's actually the display and
it's remarkable how much like actual
paper it feels and it looks now it is
also a Kindle so you will also have your
Kindle library and you can read books
just like any other Kindle albeit the
experience is going to be slightly
different because it is way larger than
what the traditional Kindle and this is
the paper white and older generation
paper white look at the difference in
size and weight so the experience is
going to be way different than
traditional Kindle but you can still
read Kindle books on the Scribe but then
where the Scribe shines is the not
taking aspects and again very similar to
the remarkable with less options you've
got a pen a fountain pen a marker and a
pencil and again when you're writing
over here this also is pressure
sensitive so if you apply light pressure
it's going to be lighter it's less
evident with a pen but more evident with
a pencil for example where shading
tilting applying pressure or light
pressure makes a difference there also
is a fountain pen which is similar to
the calligraphy pen over there so this
would be
calligraphy and makes your handwriting
look much nicer that it actually is now
how's the experience writing on both and
to be honest it's it's actually great
similar but not quite so to start with
the Kindle scribe feels a lot like paper
and if you can hear it well let me you
get it closer to the
microphone it actually sounds like a
pencil on
paper now the experience with the stylus
on the Kindle and I think the best way
for me to give you an analogy here it
feels like you're using a felt tip pen
to write so there's that soft smooth
brush of that felt tip pen that's
gliding effortlessly on the paper on the
display there's a little a little bit of
friction but not a lot the remarkable on
the other hand also feels like paper but
with a tinge of glassiness if that makes
any sense when you're writing on it the
sound is a little bit more Akin of
writing on glass it's nowhere near the
experience of writing on an iPad with an
apple pencil for example that feels
literally like writing on glass so this
still has a very paper-like feel don't
get me wrong but the sensation and if I
find some words to describe it feel s
like a ballpoint pen writing on a piece
of paper on top of a glass table if that
makes any sense so you don't have
anything below that single piece of
paper and you're writing on a glass
table that's the sensation here but
again it does sound like paper it feels
like paper but there's a little bit more
friction and resistance over here than
there is on the remarkable which gives
it that sound glasslike but not quite I
don't know if that made any sense if not
feel free to drop a comment in the
comment section and I'll try to explain
it better now having said that which is
a better writing experience to be honest
they're both great but I do prefer the
remarkable the fact that it has a little
bit more friction and resistance is
actually good so I like that more and
also and it's going to be hard to see on
camera but the lines of whatever you
write or Draw look better on the
remarkable they must have some sort of
stroke smoothing algorithms or something
of the sort but when you look closely at
the the lines that are drawn on the
Kindle they look a little bit more
Jagged whereas on the remarkable they
look much smoother now you probably can
only tell this if you look at these side
by side if you're just using the kle
Scribe and you're not going to feel that
the lines are wacky and Jagged and
whatnot but side by side you do notice
it's subtle but you do notice that the
lines are much smoother on the
remarkable Pro one thing I do favor
though the Kindle with is the Eraser on
the back of the stylus so using this
eraser literally feels like an eraser on
a pencil that rubber feeling it feels
really nice to use however on the
remarkable they also have an eraser on
the back but it's very stiff it's very
rigid it it doesn't feel like a rubber
eraser it feels like a wooden something
that's just heading the paper so using
the Eraser on the Kindle it feels much
more natural and better than on the
remarkable now another thing in favor of
the remarkable is the size I actually
love the fact that it's very close to an
A4 piece of paper while the Kindle is
more portable it's it's smaller in size
I've noticed that when I'm writing on it
I run out of space it feels crammed and
I do run out of space especially after
coming from the remarkable which feels
like there's a lot of space so I really
appreciate the size of the remarkable
display it is way more comfortable in my
opinion to write notes on that very
familiar size than on something smaller
like the Kindle scribe now the Kindle
also has something remarkable doesn't
they've integrated AI into the Kindle
which is really nice so if I open this
note that I wrote a handwritten note
with AI and you go on top over here
you've got that AI button and you've got
two options summarize and refine writing
and I tried to write and poor
handwriting towards the end those last
two lines barely legible on purpose I
wanted to see how good is the AI over
here first let me show you fine writing
what that does in just a few seconds it
gives you something like this and those
last two lines which were barely legible
100% accuracy that is quite remarkable
but the more interesting bit is the
summarize so again that handr note ask
AI to summarize it and in a few seconds
it's going to spit out quite a good
summary if that handwritten note there
you go just a few bullet points
excellent summary in just a few seconds
so that is quite remarkable and
unfortunately at least as of now there's
no AI options on the remarkable Pro now
lastly we come to price and there's a
huge price difference between the two
the remarkable starts at
$750 while the Kindle starts at $400 so
the remarkable is almost double the
price of the Kindle and this brings us
back to that million-dollar question
should you buy one and if so which one
and to answer that you need to really
think of your use cases if you are going
to be predominantly writing notes and a
lot of notes to justify paying that much
for a remarkable you do want your notes
to be digitized you do want the
convenience of carrying only one thing
and having endless pieces of paper
organizing everything digitally syncing
it across your computer and other
devices and you have the money to spare
then I would say go with the remarkable
Pro in terms of the experience I think
it is as close to writing on actual pen
and paper as it gets but that of course
comes at a price it's not cheap and it's
a steep price but if you're looking for
the absolute best digital pen paper
writing experience then go with a mar
Pro on the other hand if in addition to
writing you do a lot of reading the
Kindle scribe might be the perfect cross
you get a Kindle albeit a larger one but
you can very comfortably read books in a
way that is very close to actually
holding a physical book in your hand at
least in ter terms of the feel how the
text looks how crisp it is with no
glares in a paper like experience but
then also it gives you excellent note
taking capabilities as well at half the
price almost of the remarkable so if
either you don't want to Shell out that
much money for the remarkable or reading
is as important as not taking or drawing
for you then I would say definitely get
the Kindle scrap 2 you will not be
disappointed now there is a third option
if you're some what into writing notes
but not to the point where you can
justify shelling out that much money for
something that only writes notes and
this is an iPad and an apple pencil but
you still have that problem of the
writing experience of stylus on glass
and look at the reflection over here of
the light that I have on top there's a
lot of reflection and it just Glides
look how fast it Glides there's
absolutely no friction nor resistance
but you can change that very easily
with something like this and there's a
lot of these in the market and this
particular one is magnetic so you can
take it out whenever you want and then
put it back on and what it does gives
you a paperlike experience now it's not
going to be as good as the paper display
on something like the remarkable or the
Kindles scribe but it does a pretty good
job so first of all it's gliding much
less and then listen to how it sounds
now
much more paperlike so with something
like this you can actually enjoy writing
notes on your iPad with an experience
that is somewhat similar to writing on
pen and paper not quite but somewhat
similar but also you have a device
that's capable of a million other things
in addition to writing notes so to wrap
this up I'm going to have three
different buckets if you're in the
bucket of 100% no taking absolutely best
at any cost any price go for the
remarkable Pro now if you don't want to
pay that much and you also would like to
read some books then I would say go for
the Kindle scribe and if you were
somewhere in the middle where your use
cases are a mix of writing some notes
but also consuming some media then you
might be better off getting an iPad and
a a screen protector that gives you that
paper feel you're going to get pretty
good writing experience but for the same
price as a remarkable and potentially
you canle as well depending what iPad
you get you you can get a device that is
capable of far more than writing notes
and is probably then a better bank for
your buck that's it for me I'll put
