I've used the option suggested by @randyinla with my iterm2 (3.0.15) but it created another problem – the first line is obscured by macOS window bar which is super annoying. For those who're struggling and want to roll it back, you can open iterm2 preferences with ⌘ + , (Command-Comma) combination.
