Godofbrowser / Google cloud storage credentials for Now.sh
Created June 29, 2019 22:42
This gist shows how to use the env var GCLOUD_CREDENTIALS provided by now.sh after google cloud storage integration
const {Storage} = require('@google-cloud/storage');
const fromB64 = (string) => Buffer.from(string, 'base64').toString();
const credentials = JSON.parse(fromB64(process.env.GCLOUD_CREDENTIALS))
const storage = new Storage(credentials ? {credentials} : undefined)

Use Redux ecosystem without Redux
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// Intro
///////////////////////
// Tools like Redux-saga, React-redux and Reselect can easily be used without Redux
// For Reselet there's nothing to do, it's just not coupled to Redux
// For the others, you just need to provide an adapter
// At Stample.co we use a legacy framework that is quite close to Redux but with a bad API
// We want to progressively migrate to Redux, so starting now to use Redux tools on new features will make our migration faster

Installing Node.js to Linux & macOS & WSL with nvm

Installing Node.js with nvm to Linux & macOS & WSL

A quick guide on how to setup Node.js development environment.

Install nvm for managing Node.js versions

nvm allows installing several versions of Node.js to the same system. Sometimes applications require a certain versions of Node.js to work. Having the flexibility of using specific versions can help.

  1. Open new Terminal window.

System Design Cheatsheet

System Design Cheatsheet

Picking the right architecture = Picking the right battles + Managing trade-offs

Basic Steps

  1. Clarify and agree on the scope of the system
  • User cases (description of sequences of events that, taken together, lead to a system doing something useful)
    • Who is going to use it?
    • How are they going to use it?

How I'd do code splitting in Redux (pseudo code, not tested!)
import { combineReducers } from 'redux';
import users from './reducers/users';
import posts from './reducers/posts';
export default function createReducer(asyncReducers) {
return combineReducers({
users,
posts,
...asyncReducers
});

What forces layout/reflow. The comprehensive list.

What forces layout / reflow

All of the below properties or methods, when requested/called in JavaScript, will trigger the browser to synchronously calculate the style and layout*. This is also called reflow or layout thrashing, and is common performance bottleneck.

Generally, all APIs that synchronously provide layout metrics will trigger forced reflow / layout. Read on for additional cases and details.

Element APIs

Getting box metrics
  • elem.offsetLeft, elem.offsetTop, elem.offsetWidth, elem.offsetHeight, elem.offsetParent

Promise protips - stuff I wish I had known when I started with Promises
// Promise.all is good for executing many promises at once
Promise.all([
promise1,
promise2
]);
// Promise.resolve is good for wrapping synchronous code
Promise.resolve().then(function () {
if (somethingIsNotRight()) {
throw new Error("I will be rejected asynchronously!");
