PDI Checklist for Two Wheeler (planning for my Triumph Speed 400)

πŸ” 1. Exterior Condition

Check the body and parts for any damage, wear, or poor finishing.

  • Body & Paint – No scratches, dents, uneven paint, or signs of repainting.
  • Seat & Upholstery – Free of tears, stains, or visible damage.
  • Wheels & Tires – Check manufacturing date and colored lines.
  • Frame & Chassis – No rust, corrosion, or poor welding.
  • Lights (Physical Condition) – No cracks or scratches on headlights, indicators, taillights.
  • Mirrors & Handlebar Controls – Properly aligned, sturdy, and damage-free.
  • Exhaust – No scratches, dents, or loose parts.
  • Brake Discs – Should be smooth and scratch-free.
  • Wheel Alignment – Bike should roll straight without pulling to one side.
  • Tyre Pressure – Ask dealer to ensure correct PSI is set.

βš™οΈ 2. Mechanical Components

These affect handling and ride feel – check them thoroughly.

  • Suspension – Push down to check smooth movement, no squeaks or stiffness.
  • Brakes (Lever Feel) – Should feel firm, not spongy.
  • Chain Tension – Match recommended slack shown on the swingarm.
  • Clutch Lever Play – Should have 10–12mm of movement.
  • Radiator – No dents, cracks, or visible damage.
  • Cold Start Test – Start engine cold and listen for weird sounds.
  • Gear Shifting (Manual Check) – Try gently shifting gears (while bike is off).
  • Side Stand & Main Stand – Easy to move, no resistance.

πŸŽ’ 3. Accessories & Add-ons

Items you should receive with your bike or should be present on it.

  • Toolkit – Ask for the standard toolkit (usually under the seat).
  • First Aid Kit – Confirm it’s included.
  • Spare Key – Should receive 2 keys. Test both if possible.
  • Owner’s Manual – Make sure it’s included.
  • Battery Brand – Check if it’s Amaron or Exide; if not, negotiate.
  • Fuel Level/Gauge Check – Ask for at least 1–2L to confirm gauge is working.

βš™οΈ 4. Engine & Fluids

Critical for the bike’s performance and reliability.

  • Engine Oil – Ask if it’s topped up or replaced before delivery.
  • Coolant – Check level is between min-max marks.
  • Brake Fluid – Should be at proper level in reservoir.
  • Cold Start Test – Confirmed (repeat if missed above).

⚑ 5. Electrical & Functional Check

Test all switches, buttons, and electronics.

  • Horn – Loud and consistent.
  • Indicators – Blink at normal speed.
  • Headlights & Taillights – Both high and low beams working.
  • Dashboard Display – All warning lights and indicators turn on briefly.
  • ECU Software – Confirm it's updated to the latest version.
  • Kill Switch & Starter Button – Working correctly.

Check actual usage and raise questions if higher than expected.

  • Kilometers on Odometer – Should be under 10 km. Ask why if more.
  • Speedometer Test – Ask for a short test ride or check sensor movement.

Match these with official documents.

  • VIN Number – Note it and cross-check with RC/Invoice.
  • Manufacturing Month & Year – Confirm it’s a 2024 model.

πŸ“¦ 8. Documents & Delivery Items

These should be handed over to you without needing reminders.

  • Invoice Copy – Verify pricing and taxes.
  • Insurance Copy – Confirm engine/chassis numbers match.
  • Temporary Registration – Should be present if permanent is pending.
  • PUC Certificate – Provided if required in your area.
  • Warranty Booklet – With stamp, VIN, and warranty period mentioned.
  • Service Book – First service should be logged or scheduled.

Don’t skip these just before signing or riding out.

  • Clean & Polished – Bike should be properly cleaned and detailed.
  • Photo Record – Take photos of:
    • Full bike (from all sides)
    • VIN number
    • Odometer
    • Engine area
    • Any visible issues
  • PDI Acknowledgement – Sign only after all checks are done.
