collapsed:: true
- Four Phase Protocol:
- Phase 1: Promote Motility
- Phase 2: Reduce Gas Levels
- Phase 3: Reduce Inflammation
- Phase 4: Kill Bacteria
- Types
- Hydrogen SIBO - Diarrhea, IBS-D
- Methane SIBO / Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth IMO - Constipation, IBS-C
- Test
- Lactulose breath test
- Herbal protocol works for
- SIBO
- SIFO
- Candida
- Dysbiosis
- Root cause
- Sluggish motility in the Small Intestine
- Low digestive enzymes and Stomach Acid
- Three main parts of treatment
- Kill bacteria
- Starve bacteria
- Promote motility
- Phase 1: Promote Motility (1 Week)
- Magnesium
- Motility Activator (pro-kinetic)
- Aloe Pro
- Meal spacing
- 4-5 hours between meals
- 12 hours between dinner and breakfast
- Optional: Intermittent Fasting 16-18 hours
- Gives MMC the time it needs to sweep out the small intestine
- Motility in the small intestine
- Some people may have sluggish motility even when they have multiple bowel movements during the day
- Enteric nerves in the lines of the intestine create waves of peristalsis called the Migrating Motor Complex (MMC)
- Sweep food and bacteria from the small intestine into the colon
- In SIBO MMC is damaged by
- Food Poisoning
- Auto-immune disease
- Stress
- Snacking throughout the day
- Phase 2: Reduce Gas Levels (1 Week after Phase 1)
- Digestive enzymes
- In the gastric phase, betaine HCl and pepsin prime the stomach, ensuring proper pH to initiate the first phase of digestion.
- This sets up the second stage of digestion, the enteric phase, in which high-concentration pancreatin, which includes protease, amylase, and lipase, is released and activated in the small intestine to ensure proper protein and carbohydrate breakdown and fat absorption.
- Ox bile also facilitates fat digestion.
- Bromelain and Papain facilitate protein digestion.
- 1-2 capsules before (5-30m) or after meals
- Betaine and Pepsin (optional addon in achlorhydria)
- hydrochloric acid (HCl) and the digestive enzyme, pepsin
- Hydrochloric acid is vital for the proper digestion of protein and the absorption of vitamins and minerals (especially vitamin B12, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc). HCl also plays an important role in signaling the pancreas to release digestive enzymes.
- Pepsin is one of the first enzymes to initiate protein digestion and works in synergy with HCl to provide complete protein digestive support.
- 1 capsule after the meal
- SIBO diet
- Eliminate all food feeding the SIBO bacteria
- Sugar (including artificial)
- Alcohol
- Low fodmap + Low lectin
- Fodmap foods
- Beans
- Dairy
- Grains (breads, pastas, cereals, oatmeal, quinoa)
- Garlic
- Onions
- Vegetables
- Asparagus
- Artichoke
- Fruits
- Avoid all if possible
- If underweight low fodmap fruits can be had
- Use monash university fodmap app
- Lectin (outer coating of beans, grains, seeded vegetables) foods
- Tomatoes
- Bell peppers
- Egg plant
- Zuchini
- Cucumbers
- Fodmap foods
- Proteins
- Non vegetarian proteins are usually fine
- they do not usually contain fiber which feeds the SIBO bacteria
- chicken,
- fish
- eggs
- turkey
- shrimp
- beef
- Vegetarian proteins are problematic
- They have resistant starch which break down slowly in the small intestine, for ex: lentils, beans
- they contain which feeds the SIBO bacteria
- Non vegetarian proteins are usually fine
- Carbohydrates
- Fine
- Carrots
- Sweet potatoes
- Yams
- White basmati rice
- Fine
- Dark leafy greens (lot of)
- Arugula
- Spinach
- Chard
- Kale
- Eliminate all food feeding the SIBO bacteria
- Digestive enzymes
- Phase 3: Reduce Inflammation (1 Week after Phase 2)
- Spore Pro-biotic IgG
- Bacillus spore-based probiotic combined with bovine Immunoglobulins (IgG)
- 3 Capsules first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with water
- The Immunoglobulins (IgG Antibodies) help to bind bacterial toxins and microbes that cause die-off symptoms during SIBO treatment. IgG also helps reduce gut inflammation and prevent autoimmune tendencies that start in the gut. It can help to heal Leaky Gut. It may also help in reducing adverse food reactions.
- Spores are dormant, soil-organisms that germinate in the intestines. Spores can survive hostile environments like stomach acid and have a longer life of activity in the intestines (21 days vs 7 days).
- Spore Pro-biotic IgG
- Phase 4: Kill Bacteria (1 Week after Phase 3)
- Hydrogen SIBO: Berberine and Oregano
- Methane SIBO: All 3
- Berberine Pro
- Oregano Oil
- Allicidin
- Introduce 1 herb at a time, wait for 3 days and introduce the next one
- Do not take herbs while fasting
- Also do Phases 1, 2 and 3 (helps toleration of the herbs)
- Digestive enzyme pro helps toleration of the herbs
- IgG reduce symptoms of die-off
- Optional
- 4-6 weeks once you have all the herbs on board
- Food re-introduction
- After Phase 4
- One new food after every 3 days
- Prevent a relapse
