Getting over a cold

Getting over a cold

Every time I get a cold I forget how shitty it is and I forget all my tips on how to get over it quickly, so this is a log so I don't forget.

Phases

When I get a cold, I usually experience each of these in order, stacking until the end. Each has its own needs, so they'll be addressed separately

Sore Throat

This is a warning sign that the sickness is approaching.

  • Brush teeth more often.
  • Begin making plans for sickness: Arrange work or cancel personal plans now while a chance is given.
  • Drink tea with lemon and honey
  • Minimise talking

Coughs and Sneezes

This lasts until the end.

  • Beware of lips when sneezing, biting a lip with a sneeze means dealing with a mouth ulcar AND a cold
  • Wear a covid mask while cooking
  • Avoid milk or other consumables that promote phlegm
  • Begin taking cold and flus at this point

Running Nose

This lasts through the hardest part of the cold.

  • Begin carrying tissues
  • Assign a plastic bag for used tissue storage, carry it around to ensure tissues dont end up in random spots.
  • Use lip gloss on lips and nose to prevent parchment burn
  • Avoid taking bathes, dispite the temptation
  • This is where all work should be stopped and rest take the entire duration
  • All meals should be soups or other broths to honor the victorians

Lethargy and Aches

This lasts through the hardest part of the cold as well.

  • Don't do anything strenuous, mentally or physically
  • Watch programs and play simple games
  • Sit with a hot water bottle, working up a mild fever is a good thing.
