So the whole thing happens if you, per chance, have used /mnt to mount something. I mean, how could you!
Errors happen, but let it simmer for a bit that this happened with the package for the filesystem layout itself. one of the most critical bits and whoever worked on didn't consider this NOR did whoever reviewed it NOR did any test exist for the whole purpose of the thing they needed to update.
most positive interpretation is a too stressful workplace, and that's bad in itself for core packages.
