Installation

there's an in-game guide that goes over almost everything and provides you with necessary starter items
- access it by pressing "U" (by default)
0 switches between 3rd person and 1st person camera
- I prefer first-person
before you leave the starting area, touch the Waystone on the far West side of town
in your inventory menu, you can use the right side search box to search for any item in the game and right-click it to discover how to obtain it
you may need to adjust your GUI scale if it's too big or too small
- hit "esc" to get to the options menu
- click "Options..."
- click "Video Settings..."
- on the default tab ("General") adjust GUI Scale

if a hotkey doesn't make sense to you, change it
Ctrl+<1-9> switches to the corresponding hotbar slot
<1-8> casts the corresponding skill from your skill bar
press "G" to open the character menu
- there's also a button accessible from the inventory menu that takes you to the character menu
make sure you're allocating all points on level-up
- attributes
- talent points
- class skill points
- class passive points
make sure you add learned skills to your skill hotbar (can use "G")
change your auto-salvage settings from the character menu
- probably want to auto-salvage white gear to start, maybe green gear as well

Nature's Compass finds nearest instance of a particular biome and guides you to it
Trading Post allows you to trade with all villagers at once
Construction Wands help you build structures more quickly
Look into the storage mods in the mod information below, they're extremely useful mods

the button to send applicable items to the master backpack also sends your weapon from your hotbar
- instead what I do is press "Q" to drop applicable items from the chest, so I can walk over them and they'll get picked up into the correct bags
